Work package 4

Assessment of the ecological and economical impacts of optimisation approaches

WP4 quantifies the effects of different building and management factors on the thermal control capacity of dairy buildings. The overall risks to production efficiency associated with sub-optimal housing design will be evaluated and the cases where aspirations to improve welfare are in conflict with aspirations to reduce emissions are highlighted. A modelling framework will be developed and used to analyse the potential cost-benefit of different options throughout the project. Environmental impacts as well as economic consequences of implementing NVB concepts or other strategies will be evaluated using different modelling approaches.
